J'aime La Rochelle

La Rochelle is like the perfect little city. It is often nice weather and sits just on the edge of the ocean. It is a fair size and has great history which makes it somewhat of a touristy spot. However, it is certainly not the most popular in France and most of the tourists themselves are French. Because of this, there are the conveniences of a big city, the novelties of a tourtist trap, while the french culture is still deeply preserved and there is still the serenity of an out-of-the-way place. I thouroughly enjoyed all of my time there.

I loved the fact that we could bike everywhere and that we did! All of the shops, the things to see and do, church, etc, were not only within biking distance, but there were so many neat things to see on the way as well! There were more people on bikes and foot than in cars. It wasn't too often that I saw athletic bikers, but most of the time people were on them to run errands; as a means of transportation. A lot of the time the bikes would have those little baskets in the front where people would stick their groceries and what not and there were rent-a-bikes throughout town.

The busiest part of town, where there were most of the selling kiosks and street performers, there were always the La Rochelle towers in site. When I first arrived I thought they were castles but soon learned that they were actually medevil military towers. The are the landmark of La Rochelle and I thought ever so pretty.
It was amazing that there was this constant reminder of such deep long-past history and they were quite picturesque and amazing to look at. I never got tired of looking at them or taking pictures of them.
On Sunday afternoon there was a free classical concert right in the shadow of them! It was so beautiful and neat. The music was fantastic and the backdrop so fitting and breathtaking.
